Your journey awaits!
Janny Sivilay, LSCSW, LCSW
Hello, nice to meet you. A little bit about me is, that I’m a bit odd, my communication style is direct, and I find humor in too many things. Throughout my career, I’ve found that the types of people who thrive with my style of therapy are tired of the copy-paste sessions. My clients have told me I’m a therapist who isn’t afraid to meet you where you’re at and match your energy. I proudly hold space for you to be completely honest with yourself.
History
I started in the field experiencing different types of work before I received my master’s in social work. Some examples of my history are outcomes evaluations on services at a domestic violence shelter, tutoring youth in the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka, mentoring children in elementary school who struggled with socially integrating with peers, direct care in a group home, medical staff in a doctor’s office, research in various labs in Psychology, and studying substance abuse during my undergraduate psychology degree. After my licensure, my experience as a therapist began with working in an acute inpatient setting while also seeing clients in private practice where I mainly accepted KS Medicaid.
With 6 years of experience in the field of therapy, but almost 11 years in the field of mental health, I have had the privilege of working with diverse groups of individuals, couples, children, and families each with their unique journeys.
My Bread and Butter
I specialize in addressing a spectrum of issues, including family/cultural trauma, gender identity, children of immigrants’ challenges, and chronic maladaptive patterns. Given the breadth of concerns I work with, I prioritize Internal Family Systems (IFS) as it offers a profound way to delve into the root causes of distress stemming from these issues.
I also specialize in supporting individuals who have transitioned from very strict upbringings to the complexities of adulthood, where they encounter a stark contrast between newfound freedom and minimal guidance. This juncture often becomes a space for the inner child to confront the accumulated trauma from earlier years which results in the discovery of chronic maladaptive behaviors. Together, we navigate the development of compensatory behaviors crafted during years of survival, fostering healing and growth, and eventually decreasing those disruptive painful patterns.
Overall, I integrate a diverse range of therapeutic modalities acquired over the years to delve into deep-seated issues stemming from the wounded inner child. Drawing from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), I offer a comprehensive approach.
I have experience in Reiki and other spiritual practices and I maintain a strict separation between these and my therapeutic approaches. However, if you're curious about these practices, feel free to inquire for further details.
